Gotham Season 2 Episode 3 Look Into My Eyes
There’s a new magician in town. Let’s just skip all the mystery and get down to who he really is. Jervis Tetch is doing a few magician gigs (hypnosis) while he looks for his dear sister Alice (is the name a coincidence, I think not!) Jim gets hired to do the leg work. We finally find out why Lee is in town and SHE’s staying. And the more Bruce finds out about his clone, the less we know.
The Magic Man
Jervis Tetch the magician has been hired by Barbara to serve as entertainment for her bar guests. He hypnotizes a couple with his watch and some clever trigger words to the applause of the room. But when Barbara asks where he’s staying in town, while he does his gigs, Jervis makes it seem as if he doesn’t have a place but is waiting for someone to take him in. This is after declining Barbara’s offer to stay at her place.
That’s because the ability to hypnotize can get you a home if you use your skills right. Jervis shows up that very night at the house of that couple he hypnotized. He calls them on the phone and says some poetic shit about taking their house. The guy opens the door for Jervis. Who says some more poetic crap to scare the wife. The guy hits his wife over the head with a fireplace poker and is directed to cover her in plastic and bury her before killing himself.
Jervis sits comfortably while the old tenant does the spring cleaning. He has a nice mansion and can concentrate on what he’s set to do in this town. See, Jervis is in Gotham to find his long lost sister Alice. That name can’t be a coincidence Mad hatter. But weren’t they friends in wonderland?
They Call Him 5
Bruce’s clone has been starving in the streets of Gotham. I was emotional as he tore into a plate of food as if he had never eaten before. I love that clone.
He says that Strange named him 514A but they call him 5 for short. Bruce and Alfred are curious about 5’s past so he tells them as much as he knows. He doesn’t remember ever being away from Strange’s lab. 5 can’t remember ever having family. He never met any of the other inhabitants of Arkham till Mooney freed him, though he heard them in their rooms. They did tests on him and gave him books, but that’s the extent with his interaction with the world.
5 followed around Selena because she gave him money, and then became interested in Bruce when he saw him with Selena. Now Alfred is not a fan of 5. It’s because he knows he’s a clone and it’s weird and he’s spooked by him.
Alfred wants Bruce to let 5 go. But to where? 5 would end up homeless and without food again. So they both agree that Lucius Fox would better know what to do with a Bruce Wayne clone. And since they won’t be able to speak to him to the next day, Bruce commands that 5 be left at Wayne manor.
Meanwhile, 5 is stuffing pieces of food into his mouth and doesn’t even feel his arm burned by a near by candle. 5 was most likely fused with some other type of animal like Fish Mooney. Looking exactly like Bruce Wayne is not his only skill.
Jim’s Faltering Love Life
Valerie spent the night with Jim Gordon after a good romp. And although Jim is the relationship type, Valerie gives the impression that she doesn’t intend to have this be more then a one night stand. She puts on her clothes and refuses to use Jim’s shower because of the water pressure. Well, she doesn’t like his apartment. It’s crap.
Had she seen where he lived with Barbara, she would have passed out from the downgrade. Vale leaves with a comedic, “see you around.”
To drive Jim’s love life further into a rut, he bumps into Lee at the GCPD. Lee has taken back her medical examiner position and has moved back to Gotham…with her fiancé. Her doctor boyfriend. Adding insult to injury. The Commish told her she won’t have to worry about Jim because he doesn’t work there, but he comes by every so often to pick up check. These two will be seeing a lot of each other.
Jim meets Jarvis
Jim Gordon has been paying rent in his low budget apartment as a bounty hunter. So there’s no surprise that Jarvis shows at his door to help find his sister. He even offers to pay double the GCPD’s pay to find Alice.
Alice has been living alone in an apartment and has missed some payments. Her landlord harasses her for her rent although she’s lost her job. The nasty old man suggests that Alice pay in OTHER ways. I wanted to take a hose to the old man but Alice can take care of herself. She smacks the geezer and he smacks her back causing her mouth to bleed. Then he grabs her for a kiss and starts shaking.
Alice tells him she’s sorry but he did it to himself. She clearly has some powers and isn’t the type to use them even if she’s being sexually harassed by a dirty old man.
The Search For Alice
Jim finds Selena in order to find Alice. Selena’s mind is on Ivy, who has been missing for some time now. So she wants Jim to keep his eye out for her in exchange for what she knows. Selena saw Alice when Mooney freed the mutants. Alice was in Arkham for some time, but left Mooney to live a normal life. She got a job at a bar and an apartment.
Jim heads to the bar and finds that it’s been torched to the ground. The mobster owner and his goons are hanging around and aren’t happy with Jim being there. Especially since he’s looking for Alice, and she’s the reason the bar burned. She cut herself on the bar and spilled her blood and it caught fire.
From what I can tell, Alice’s blood has some combustible powers and poison like attributes. I wonder how much of that came from Strange’s experimenting?
Jim tries to leave the bar since there’s nothing else to do. But the mobster owner wants to show off his power. His men get at Jim and he ends up getting hit in the head with a bat. Jim comes through though and beats them all. Only now he has a gash in his head.
The Mayor of Gotham
The old mayor, Aubrey James, has a press conference to announce that he will take over as mayor till some elections can be set up. No one has taken the position since Galavant was removed. Penguin shows up with his fans and shuts the whole show down. First of all, the people are not going to wait to make elections. Elections will be held immediately and second of all, Penguin will be running, because Aubrey failed the last time.
He was never a capable mayor and Penguin easily proves that to the media. He claims he was sent to Arkham unjustly and Aubrey was in cahoots with most of the legal happenings in town. But most importantly, Penguin helped to cleanse Gotham of Fish Mooney. The people that have been backing Penguins hysterics have accumulated and are fully supporting him.
Aubrey has a lot to fear. Which is why he calls Penguin at his new head quarters to arrange a meeting. Penguin has a whole campaign running from his fathers mansion. He even cleaned up for his political posters.
Number 5 is Sorry
The next morning, Bruce is boxing with Alfred when 5 wakes up. Bruce invites him to join them and Alfred is somewhat creeped out but allows it. I wanted to cry. Like I said in last weeks episode, 5 breaks my heart. Alfred approaches him with gloves up and 5 just stands there with no sense as to what to do.
And even though I’m over here crying out my mascara, 5 proves to be a better fighter then even he knows. Although he doesn’t move, he catches Alfred suddenly, and quite a few times at that. Alfred was taken back by the force. 5 must have some strength abilities acquired from Strange’s experimenting.
Alfred manages to get him back once and 5 gets a nose bleed. The only thing is that 5 can’t feel it. Super strength and immunity to pain? Is 5 a super Bruce Wayne?
While 5 wipes his nose, Bruce and Alfred are stunned by the scar down the back of his neck from a surgery. 5 has no memory of it at all. Alfred is more concerned with the clone then he was before. Bruce feels pity for the things they must have done to 5.
So Bruce hits the books to get an idea as to what kind of surgery was performed on 5, based on the scar pattern. He’s interrupted by Selena and hides 5 while they talk. Selena wants Bruce to help her find Ivy. Which is a good idea, but Bruce is consumed with taking care of or protecting 5, so he declines. Selena is offended and leaves.
Even though she has already went out the door, Bruce says he’s sorry to the air. 5 overhears him and repeats it several times. Not because he’s learning conversation, but because he’s learning to mimic Bruce. Now I feel like Alfred. Some of my maternal attachments to 5 are null and void.
Ex’s and Fiancé’s
Jim heads to the ER to get stitches for the gash in the back of his head. He can’t continue to look for Alice, if his head is split open. The attending doctor, Mario, ends up being Lee’s fiancé. Mario informs him that Lee speaks well of him and thats all we need with he small talk. Jim assures him that his relationship with Lee is over and they can move on. He doesn’t need this guys insecurities to be yet another problem he has to deal with.
Jim makes sure to also advise Mario that if he hurts Lee, he’ll kill him. Then, as if they were sitting at a amicable breakfast meeting, Jim asks Mario if he’s seen Alice. So your going to threaten his life and then ask for his help? Pfft
Lee and Mario have dinner that night and the ER visit comes up. Mario is incredibly insecure that Jim didn’t know his name or who he was. Jim only knew he was a doctor and he didn’t connect the dots when he went in to get the stitches. Although Lee tries to convince him that there isn’t anything to worry about, I get the feeling that this issue is going to fester in Mario.
This feeling of mine felt stronger when Mario’s father joins the couple for dinner. Mario is the son of Falcone. The Falcone’s didn’t want Mario to have any part in the mobster life so he was raised “right” and became a doctor. I will bet money that the effects of his upbringing and his distant mobster family influence, will show up later in his story. I don’t think that Mario is who Lee thinks he is.
Falcone had his own reservations, knowing Jim, and brings up the relationship too. And for the millionth time, Lee assures everyone that she is not with Jim and they are leading separate lives. Falcone toasts their relationship and I can almost feel a Lee Jim reunion.
Jim finds Alice’s apartment and the bugged out landlord in the closet. Before the wired old man could choke Jim out, Alice shoots him in the back. She tells Jim that the man was bugging out because he was tainted by her blood. Jim tells her that he’s been looking for her on behalf of her brother and she says she doesn’t want to see him. She doesn’t want Jarvis to find her. Big surprise. So the girl knows her brother is off.
Jim returns to Barbara’s club to speak with Jarvis, who has put Barbara under hypnosis. Jarvis almost accidently revealed her psychosis when he tells her to fall in love with him and then rejects her. Barbara breaks a glass on the table and almost gutted him infront of her guests. But is intercepted by Barbara’s girlfriend.
Jim threatens to tell the GCPD that Jarvis is looking for his sister but she’s terrified of him. Jarvis suggests that they have a private convo on the roof. A big NO NO. Once on the roof, Jarvis hypnotizes Jim and makes him stand on the ledge. Jim would have jumped, had Alice not come with her gun and shot her own brother.
Jarvis escapes but this won’t be the last we see of him.
The Mayor’s Meeting
Former mayor Aubrey James and Penguin meet at a public restaurant. Aubrey has learned a lot since the days Galavant put his head in box. He knows Penguin isn’t a fair playing opponent. They have some strong words and Penguin rises from his chair. I thought he was going to hit Aubrey and everyone else in the restaurant did too.
A dozen or so men aim their guns at Penguin as soon as he stands. Not only did Aubrey make this meal public, he brought his own muscle. The only thing is that everyone else in the restaurant, is working for Penguin, and they point their guns at Aubrey’s men. Penguin had about twice the muscle.
Penguin doesn’t want to kill Aubrey though. He needs someone to run against. Because what fun would it be running alone. And to show some good faith, he pins one of his campaign pins on Aubrey’s lapel.
Seems like Penguin will be mayor after all.
But Penguin feels like he’s missing something. He bribes the new director of Arkham with a promotion and a way out of the disorganized asylum. The place looked better when Strange was running his funky experiments in the basement. The man takes the bribe and releases the Riddler with a certificate of sanity.
At Arkham’s steps, Penguin picks up his dear friend in a limo. This will be interesting.
That night while Bruce slept, 5 went and cut his hair to look like him. 5 takes some of Bruce’s clothes and even drives off with Alfred’s car. He meets up with Selena and pretends to be Bruce. He apologizes to her, which is why he was practicing the sorry’s. But Selena knows theres something different. She doesn’t question him too much because 5 is proper like Bruce, but edgy in a way she can relate to.
When Selena agrees to go out for a bite to eat,5 watches with a creepy smile as she steps into the car.
What happened to my baby clone? I loved his innocence.
Questions for next week:
Will the Mad Hatter make another appearance? Will Alfred and Bruce be able to stop 5? And stop him from what? What is 5 doing? comment below or message me so we can talk more about Gotham
